Eater Previews Ten Hope

Ten Hope is now open in an airy and bright space at 10 Hope Street, between Roebling and Havemeyer streets, serving up Greek, Italian, Spanish, and Moroccan dishes. Dieterle is a consulting chef here and put together a menu with dishes such as flatbread with dips like hummus and whipped feta; crispy cumin lamb ribs; grilled swordfish skewer with vegetables; and a burger with kasseri cheese and dill tzatziki. The full menu is below, with Celestine and Perilla alum Jim Handwerker working as chef de cuisine.

Aaron Kerr-Zengo of Bowery Bar created the cocktails, like the Half Royal with bourbon, ginger, blood orange, and vermouth. There are also very trendy housemade spiked sodas, wines from around the world, and domestic draft and international bottled beers.

The space is a major draw, with high ceilings and ivy throughout. But it’s the backyard that’s the true calling card, a sprawling, 2,500-square-foot concrete-floor space with lounges and tables and ivy throughout. Ten Hope comes from Bill Zafiros, who also owns Beekman Beer Garden, Governors Beach Club, and Ambrose Beer and Lobster, as well as events company Marquee Concerts. He’s bringing in live music every Tuesday night.

It’s been an interesting few years for Dieterle, who has kept a low profile since closing his popular Perilla and Kin Shop in 2015. He surfaced briefly by consulting on a gluten-free Italian cafe and restaurant, but that closed shortly thereafter.

Ten Hope is open Tuesday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 1 a.m.
